The majority of divers use nothing more than compressed air. These high pressure compressors are available for sale and depending on size range from $1500 Usd to $50000 Usd. They require special oils and filters as well as routine air quality tests to ensure clean pure air.

If divers are using a mixed gas such as NITROX, HELIOX, or TRIMIX then those gases are blended from individual cylinders and mixed by pressure in the appropriate tank. Bottled gas and a compresser may be used in combination to produce NITROX and TRIMIX.
